Shawn has been performing for wedding ceremonies, receptions, parties, dinners, studio sessions and many other functions throughout South-East Michigan for over a decade.
Shawn can perform as a solo violinist (Acoustic or Electric) for your ceremony creating not only an intimate solo violin performance but also create a large multi-musician sound with looping effects. His musical skills span beyond classical music. As a solo violinist he has performed Jazz, Fiddle, Rock, and many more styles. Shawn , M.M., B.M.E. is a freelance musician and private studio teacher. He offers violin, viola, and beginning cello lessons both virtually and out of his studio at The Detroit Violin Company. Shawn is one of the most sought-after electric violinist in the state of Michigan and has won numerous awards for his performance skills, wedding/event reviews, and private teaching.
He began his musical studies in 1997 in the Walled Lake School District on the violin. His passion for the instrument took off immediately as he began to attend Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp annually. In 2001 he had the honor of being accepted into the Blue Lake International Youth Orchestra where he performed around Germany, and France.
In 2004 Shawn graduated from Walled Lake Western High School with the National School Orchestra Award from Valerie Palmeiro. He attended Central Michigan University with a scholarship from the music school. While at CMU he was a section leader of both violin, and viola sections. As well as attending school Shawn was also a member of the Midland Symphony Orchestra for two seasons.
In 2005 Shawn was hired as a counselor at the MASTA (Michigan chapter of the American String Teachers Association) String Camps. This is where his love of teaching really blossomed. He has worked at the camp almost every single summer since then.
Shawn graduated from Central Michigan University (Cum Laude) with a Bachelor of Music Education in 2009. The following year he began teaching private lessons at McCourt’s Musical Instruments/The Detroit Violin Company in Waterford, and as a long-term guest orchestra director in the Waterford School district. In 2020 Shawn graduated (Summa Cum Laude) with a Master of Music from Central Michigan University.
As a performer musician, Shawn has performed hundreds weddings and events around Michigan and Ohio. Shawn has received the WeddingWire Couples Choose award for 7 straight years and the Knot Best of Weddings Hall of Fame.
As of fall 2021 Shawn is the orchestra director for Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Beverly Hills, MI.
Shawn currently teaches private lessons full-time with students of all ages and abilities. He has students who are local to the Metro Detroit area as well as students from different ends of the country who are taught virtually.

Shawn has been member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas in the past. Depending on the age and goals of the individual student parts or all of the Suzuki Method may be used. Suzuki Method applies the basic principles of language acquisition to the learning of music, and called his method the mother-tongue approach. The ideas of parent responsibility, loving encouragement, constant repetition, etc., are some of the special features of the Suzuki approach.
Shawn is the current Studio Chair for the Michigan board of the American String Teachers Association. Shawn’s role is creating a more connected and cooperative studio teacher community and to bring more education opportunities to students or all ages.
